Looking for a date-night activity where you can learn something together? At Bury The Hatchet, an Axe Master explains the rules, demonstrates how to throw, and helps you get started before guiding games. Neither of you needs previous axe-throwing experience.
Start with your location and session, then build the rest of the evening around it. This guide covers standard sessions at our seven operated locations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Choose a session that fits your evening
For a date for two, start by checking the one-hour sessions at your chosen location. That can also leave room in your evening for dinner or another stop.
For a double date or larger group of four or more, we recommend two hours so you have more time to practice and play. Check the booking options for your actual party size and preferred date. If you have questions about a longer visit for two or another arrangement, contact your location before planning around it.
Make the reservation before committing to the rest of your evening. Standard sessions require full payment when you book.
Set your budget before booking
At Bensalem, Bloomfield, Cherry Hill, Freehold, Horsham, and Old Bridge, standard sessions are $35 per person for one hour or $45 per person for two hours. The $3 booking fee is already included in those prices.
King of Prussia has different pricing. Check the King of Prussia booking page for its available sessions and prices.
Optional add-ons and special events cost extra. Review your selected session and total before paying, and leave room in your evening's budget for food or anything else you plan to do. Anyone who wants to throw needs a participant ticket.
Leave time for dinner and arrival
Plan to arrive 15 minutes before your booked start time. Your session begins at the scheduled time, and arriving late can reduce your throwing time. Keep that early arrival in mind when deciding whether to eat before or afterward.
For example, a one-hour session booked for 7 PM means planning to arrive at 6:45 PM and finishing at 8 PM. If you book dinner afterward, allow additional travel time between the venue and restaurant. This is a planning example; available session times depend on your location and date.
Share the location and start time with your date before you leave. If plans change or you are running late, contact the location before your session begins. Our booking and cancellation FAQs explain the applicable terms.
Wear something you can move in
Choose comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes, which are required for all throwers. If you are dressing up for dinner, plan footwear that also works for your session.
Everyone entering the facility must be at least 10, including spectators. Anyone under 18 must have an adult age 18 or older in their group. Those requirements also matter if you are inviting friends or arranging childcare for your evening out.
Learn together and enjoy the games
You do not need to arrive with a throwing technique already figured out. Your Axe Master will explain the safety rules, demonstrate the technique, and help you practice. Ask questions as you learn and follow their directions throughout your visit.
Let the games give you something to talk about. You can compare what you are learning, encourage each other, and see how your throws develop. Photos and videos are welcome while following your Axe Master's safety instructions.
For more detail about the visit itself, read what to expect on your first axe-throwing visit.
Decide what to bring
You may bring food, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks. Hard liquor is not permitted. A dinner reservation elsewhere is optional if you would rather bring food for your visit. Contact your location ahead of time with questions about your setup.
