Your First Axe-Throwing Visit: What to Expect

Your first axe-throwing visit at Bury The Hatchet starts with an Axe Master explaining the safety rules and showing you how to throw. You will have time to practice, then play games with your group. No previous experience is needed.

This guide covers standard sessions at our Bensalem, Bloomfield, Cherry Hill, Freehold, Horsham, King of Prussia, and Old Bridge locations. For another venue listed on our website, contact that venue to confirm its policies.

Choose your location and session

We offer one-hour and two-hour sessions. We recommend two hours for groups of four or more so you have more time to practice and play. A lane holds up to 12 participants. For a larger group or venue buyout, contact your location with your preferred date and group size.

At Bensalem, Bloomfield, Cherry Hill, Freehold, Horsham, and Old Bridge, standard sessions cost $35 per person for one hour or $45 per person for two hours. These prices include the $3 booking fee. Optional add-ons and special events are priced separately.

King of Prussia has different pricing. Check the King of Prussia booking page for available sessions and prices.

Reservations are recommended. Choose your BTH location to book online, or contact the location for help. Standard sessions are paid in full when you book.

Get your group ready before you leave

• Check everyone’s age. Everyone entering must be 10 or older, including spectators. Children under 10, including infants and toddlers, cannot enter. Anyone under 18 must have an adult age 18 or older in their group.
• Wear closed-toe shoes. They are required for all throwers. Choose comfortable clothing that lets you move freely.
• Plan to arrive 15 minutes early. Sessions start at the booked time. Arriving late may reduce your throwing time, so call your location before the session begins if you are running behind.

Learn the basics with your Axe Master

Your Axe Master will explain the safety rules, demonstrate the throwing technique, and help you practice. You do not need to know how to throw before you arrive. Use this time to ask questions and get comfortable with the activity.

Once you have practiced, your Axe Master will guide your group through games. Follow their directions and all posted safety rules throughout the visit. You can take photos and videos while following those instructions.

Plan for food, drinks, and spectators

You may bring food, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks. Hard liquor is not permitted. If you are arranging catering or a larger celebration, contact your location to discuss the setup.

Each booked lane includes two free spectators. Additional spectators are $15 each. Spectators must meet the same minimum age of 10 and may not throw axes. Anyone who wants to throw needs a participant ticket.

For a birthday, work outing, or other larger event, tell the location how many people plan to throw and how many plan to watch. That gives the team the information it needs to discuss your arrangements.

Before the day of your visit, check your chosen location and booked start time, share the age and footwear requirements with your group, and allow time to arrive early.
